Saturday - Cinema & Nandos, almost shameful food shop in Asda on the way home

I've had quite a good weekend, Saturday we saw What To Expect When You're Expecting and I absolutely loved it, made me feel quite emotional at times as well! Have you seen it? Nandos was immense, as always. I didn't realise until I checked out at Asda what I must have looked like and the checkout girl commented on all the sweets. It's not all that bad though; I'm planning on making something with some of the things, so if it goes well I'll post some pictures later this week, nothing major but looking forward to it! The Ben and Jerrys was on offer and I've had some tonight, I don't think it was anything special, thats two of the new core ones I've tried and not really liked. I also found myself throwing Hershey Kisses in the basket as they remind me of New York but I always forget when I eat Hershey chocolate that I think it leaves an aftertaste of sick in my mouth? Does anyone else think this? I should really remember not to go crazy when I see it in a shop I guess!

The Olympic Torch comes to my nearest town tomorrow and I have to say I'm a little gutted I won't be seeing it. It comes to Leeds City Centre at like 7 AM and it is just too early for me to get into town, theres no way I'd be up and ready for public transport at 6, and by the time it gets to near my home its around 9, well I have to be on my way to Leeds for work then, so it looks like I won't be seeing it! Have you been to see it?

#66 Benefit Event

Around a week ago I was kindly invited to an event held by Benefit Cosmetics held in Leeds City Centre. When I woke up the rain was lashing down, I managed to get make up on the top I was planning on wearing, then couldn't find any black tights so had to change my whole outfit, and had to wear rubbish shoes so that by the time I got to Leeds, not only were the ankles of my tights a deeper burgundy than the rest of my legs, I was wet through and really wanted to just call it a day!!

I met up with Sinead, Charlotte and Jade and we had a short mooch around some shops before meeting up with Phoebe, Ray and Tor and heading down to Fibre, the bar the event was being held. I have never been in Fibre before but when we got there we were a tad early so we bought a drink and found out all drinks were £2! Also Tor introduced me to a new drink I had never heard of before but I think it is set to be a firm favourite this summer, Midori and Lemonade! Pretty much as soon as we'd sat down we were taken up lots of stairs to the members room at the top and introduced to the rest of the bloggers at the event and split into two groups.

My group pretty much consisted of who I'd arrived with, as we'd all sat together, and a few others, and Adele from Benefit came to join us. I instantly took a liking to Adele as she is a Leeds girl, is manager of my nearest Benefit counter, has fantastic eyebrows and was just one of those people you know you will get along with! She proceeded to tell us about the ethics of the Benefit girls, and then did a little showcase on some of the products to us - on me! She showed us what would happen basically if we were to go to a Benefit counter, what they were trained to do to the customers.

She took my make up off, using the Remove It Makeup Remover, then applied the Moisture Prep Toning Lotion, which is a toner/serum gel and honestly smells SO amazing, a smidgen of It's Potent Eye Cream and The POREfessional (which I think everyone and their mum will have tried now thanks to the Glamour freebies!) before matching me up to a shade in their new Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow foundation & matching powder (£24.50). She also gave me a splash of colour using one of the famous box powder blushes, in CORALista .After she had done all this my face felt so smooth and brilliant, and this has made me desperate to finish off the cleansers and toners I am currently using so that I can buy the Benefit ones! Honestly, if you have never smelt these you need to get to a counter pronto. When it comes to foundation I am a MAC Studio Fix Fluid girl at heart and although I have tried different foundations in the past I always come back to it. But at the end of the day my make up still looked great and I am strongly considering picking up the liquid foundation when my MAC runs out.

After Adele had finished, we swapped groups, and it was then Michelle's turn to give us a bit of a Benefit history lesson! I have to say that at a lot of the events I have been to these background tid bits are my favourite parts to take away and remember. I love knowing why a brand was started, perhaps why the name is what it is. For instance did you know the Benetint cheek & lip tint was made by the founders Jean & Jane because exotic dancers kept going in the shop and asking for something like it to put enhance their nipples?! Love this!!

The event was, amongst other things, to celebrate the newest Benefit addition - Box O Powder glosses. Benefit are releasing in July six Ultra Plush Glosses, one in each shade of the Boxed Powder Blushers (bar Hervana). As you can see above I snapped a quick pic of the shades 'Dandelion' and 'Hoola'  - and I have to say that I am absolutely in love with Hoola and will be buying this as soon as it is released!

I used to be a massive fan of glosses and these days I would head towards a lipstick any day but these glosses are not sticky at all, they smell gorgeous and since receiving one in my goodie bag I have literally not used anything else, that's how much I love it!

I was so made up to receive a Brow Zings in my goodie bag, eyebrows are definitely something I am big on at the moment!

I have been using the above products every day together with my usual cleanser and am absolutely loving them. As soon as my current products have been finished I am going to buy the skincare Adele used on my at the event.

We also received this really cute USB! How fab is this!

Are you a fan of the Benefit skincare? Do you think the Box O Powder Glosses are something you would be interested in?

PS - If you head to the Leeds House of Fraser counter before the 30 June for a Benefit Make Over and decide to make a purchase, quote 'Girl with the Golden Touch' you could receive a fab free gift!

There are hardly any pictures for this week so it can make up for that lol.

Hope you've enjoyed these piccies :)

#64 - Life according to my iPhone, Week 22

Hola lovelies

Another instalment of what I missed posting, week 22 this time! Week 22 ended on the weekend the Diamond Jubilee began, so I'm almost caught up!

I started the week off very healthily! Seeing these pictures is making me feel guilty for not eating this way this and chips for tea tonight whilst watching the England match anyone?

22 - Week 22 (1)

I can't remember if I mentioned it previously but I bought a skipping rope recently and thought it would be like the easiest thing was dead after about ten jumps! I kept picking it back up and trying to beat the number of jumps I could do in a row and on Monday night after eating the delicious salmon salad above I locked myself in the garage and timed myself with my phone for a minute at a time for five minutes...which sounds like nothing but for someone whose only form of exercising is walking... it killed me! I then went back inside and made up a salad for lunch the next day and some fruit. Isn't it easier to eat like this when the weather is warm!

22 - Week 22 (2)

I passed a little shop in Morley which was sadly closed...I was gutted but i suppose it was for the best as I would have bought this window display out! I really wanted the God Save The Queen poster at the back! My parents arrived back from holiday on Wednesday and we surprised them with presents and a cake for my Dad, as it was their wedding anniversary on the Monday and his birthday on the Tuesday. And I had to take a snap of this when I was reading the Daily Mail..Kate Middleton with my blog title next to her ;-)

22 - Week 22 (3)

This is pretty much how my Friday looked! I was rushed off my feet trying to finish everything off at work as I had a week off and I hate coming back into unfinished work! So helping me through were numerous cans of Red Bull, water, the new Starbucks frap, the cookie one (I didn't like it! Caramel coffee all the way!). When I got home it was a mish mash of gorgeous food from Marks & Spencer for tea, including Jubilee buns!

22 - Week 22 (4)

Saturday I was up bright and early praying for sunshine as I was going to Harrogate for the day for a friends birthday. I wore a maxi dress (for the first time ever!), Topshop/Pandora/Michael Kors and Ever Hip on my lips :) We started out in Leeds firstly, at a bar called The Hop, then onto the Sky Bar at the top of the ever changing hotel (currently Double Tree by's changed about ten times since it was built!) which has views all around Leeds. It would have been rude to not enjoy the view with a glass of champagne and strawberries...

22 - Week 22 (5)

These are just all the pics I took that day, mainly of the views from the Sky Bar . If you haven't been I would definitely recommend it! I think my favourite is the middle three, the view to the left, the centre, and the right of me!

In Harrogate we only made it to two bars but were there for hours, and then just went for a couple more in Leeds on the way off the train. I made it home around midnight and spent my Sunday absolutely hanging, watching the Queens Flotilla, and crying because I felt sorry for myself and because the Queen looked so cute. :(

Can't believe I am publishing this post at 00.12...I started writing it at about 7 pm!!

#62 Life according to my iPhone - week 21

I think week 21 of 2012 can be summed up in four sets of photographs from my iPhone.

Fajita times in the sun; homemade meatballs and salad; ham & cheese omelette and potatoes; basic beans and egg on toast!

My view practically the whole week!

Oh, and this:

This is from my all time favourite episode of Sponge Bob. When we went to New York on a night or early morning when me and my brother were getting ready or going to sleep/chilling out we would put Nickelodeon on (to remember the old days of being young!) and it was literally only ever Sponge Bob of iCarly (which I'm sorry, I loved!) and there was an episode where Squidward told Spongey he wasn't normal. Sponge Bob forms into this shape and walks around being totally boring saying 'Hey. How are you. I'm totally normal' and now me and Alix say it to each other quite a bit and I like to send this picture to him every now and then!

Aw, wish it was still this sunny now instead of the pouring rain, cold weather and flooding we currently seem to be experiencing! Sad face!

#61 - Mascarathon

I recently attended a Benefit event, where more was explained to us about something you may have heard about, seen mentioned on social networking sites, or may even be taking part in yourself. I didn't want to lump this subject in with the post I am doing about the Benefit event, and thought I would give it it's own post for me to talk a bit more about!

Benefit have teamed together with Refuge, the national domestic violence charity, for a 500 mile relay race across the UK, aptly named the Mascarathon

On any given day, Refuge helps around 1,600 women and children escape from a violent relationship/household. Now, because of cutbacks, they are forced to turn away a number of women, and have to work harder than ever to protect their services.

The statistics of domestic violence are incredibly high and shocking, and it is pretty likely that either you yourself or someone you know is being/has been abused.

In doing this relay race, Benefit and Refuge are trying to raise awareness of domestic violence - something we are all aware of, everyone knows about, yet something people still manage to turn a blind eye to.

I've taken these stats from the official Mascarathon website because I think once you see them written down it brings it all a bit closer to home - more real.
  • One in four women experiences domestic violence at some point in her life.
  • Two women are killed by a current or former parter every week in England and Wales.
  • On average, a woman will be assaulted by her partner or ex partner 35 times before reporting it to the police.
  • In 90% of domestic violence incidents in family households, children are in the same or next room.
  • Two thirds of the refuge residents are children under 14.
  • Thirty women a day attempt suicide to escape domestic violence.
  • The police receive a domestic violence related call every 60 seconds

Every sixty seconds. Not to sound dramatic, but when I was reading these statistics, I had goosebumps. I knew it was a common thing, but I don't think I ever realised just how common.

  • The UK's three largest women's charities, including Refuge, have a combined annual income of £17m. In contract, the Donkey Sanctuary received £20m in 2006.

How absolutely crazy is that??!

Mascarathon still needs people like us to sign up and run - two miles, in 30 minutes - to raise awareness of this. You can find out which route is nearest to you here

If you would like to donate money to Refuge, you can text BENE02 £2 to 70070 (or BENE02 £ get the gist!) or visit their Just Giving page here. I have just taken satisfaction in donating some money and seeing the counter tip over the £5,500 mark - but they could do with so much more!!

The whole point of this like I said earlier is to raise awareness and every little helps. Even tweeting

draws attention to this matter and if everyone who reads this post or hears about this fantastic event tweets this when they have a spare minute and could get this trending - well wouldn't that be amazing.

#60 Catch up - Week 20

Hello lovers!

Well I didn't mean to stay away from this blog for so long...can't quite believe a month has almost passed since my last post. I have been super busy lately and had been looking forward to a relaxing week off work the past week but I ended up doing something exciting pretty much every day so I spent yesterday finally getting up to date with lots and lots of unread blog posts and I really wanted to get a post out before bed tonight!

The week after my last post was quite a busy one, it kicked off with finishing work early on Monday 14 May, going to meet Sinead aka Dainty Dollymix and road tripping to Newcastle to catch Westlife on their Farewell Tour (SAD FACE).

I also got CSI delivered in the morning to work and picked up these earring from Dorothy Perkins earlier, both are totally immense! I've since finished the CSI NY boxset and rekindled my love for Flack, whose sexy image currently resides on my laptop and work computer. Can't wait for series 8 to come out on DVD! I hate watching TV shows on TV, I like to be able to sit and watch a good few discs in one sitting!

Hair and make up for the show, passing the Angel of the North - this made us nearly crash with excitement!

Ticketssss, I took so many photos and videos that I ran out of storage and had to frantically delete other stuff on my phone, but I made a very big mistake! I stupidly assumed that my iPhone, you know, the phone that has caused me to only ever use my £100+ camera on my trip to NYC because I'm so impressed with the iPhone camera, would pick up amazing photos of Westlife. WRONGGGGGGG. They all came out pretty rubbish because of the lights etc. Beyond gutted!!

When Westlife had their first ever tour I was so excited to see them, and I remember being at school that day and telling my friends I'd get them brilliant pictures, as we pulled up in the car park at Sheffield Arena I realised that I had left my camera at home - I was so upset. A few years later they performed at Leeds Party in the Park and me and my friend got right up to the front and all I could  think was, this is amazing, I have my camera, this will make up for forgetting it at Sheffield all those years ago!! As Westlife came on stage, amidst screaming and jumping up and down, I took a photo - and the camera ran out of film. IT RAN OUT OF FILM!! I was so sad I cried, right there and then. So then to find the iPhone pics turned out crap was just fantastic, obviously! At least the video sound quality is very good I suppose!

Tuesday I had the day off work as I had anticipated being very tired! I went down to the White Rose for a bit of shopping, got back and had a mooch about, made a massive vat of pasta for my lunches for the rest of the week, managed to somehow burn the side of my face after not washing my hands properly after cutting a chilli, rooted through some old things and found my Nannie's old handbag and an old book from my childhood!

I also picked up a picnic sort of cutlery set thing, to keep in my handbag/use at work - is it wrong that I could not wait for breakfast to use this?! Went for lunch on Wednesday lunch to The Victoria in Leeds, it's behind the Town Hall and is a bit of an old mans pub but seriously, this burger was SO immense and about £6. Defo worth a look in for pub grub!

Finally two more meals, the first was just a case of using chicken, mozzarella cheese, kale and noodles up on Saturday night, but it tasted absolutely fantastic. The second, I went for a drink after work on Thursday night to the Town Hall Tavern around the corner from my work and the landlord came over halfway through our drink and explained a couple had ordered food and then had an argument and stormed out...but the food had already been did we want it?? Absolutely!!! Me and the Town Hall Tavern go a long way back, I used to drink in there every day, but I haven't eaten in there since it was taken over about a year and half ago, and to be quite honest I think it is a bit too expensive. The food we were given was steak and chips, and a cod omelette and chips. The omelette was one of the best omelettes I have ever tasted and I don't think it would be something I would normally pick but after having it I would totally pick it again! My mouth is watering remembering it!

On Saturday I had a very eventful and fantastic day, I went to Haworth for their 1940's weekend, but I am going to do a separate post about that later this week.

Hope I haven't missed much while I've been away and that everyone is OK!
